Life

Life is a wordless picturebook exploring the cycles of death, transformation, and renewal. Through vivid colours, expressive illustrations, and subtle irony, Finnish artist Kati Närhi depicts falling leaves, unexpected transformations, political upheaval, and the promise of happier times. Moving between vector graphics and warm, hand-drawn imagery, the book approaches profound themes without becoming sombre. Though endings and death appear central, the story ultimately celebrates life, change, and new beginnings. The withered apple on the cover becomes, by the final page, a home for two smiling worms. Närhi is an award-winning illustrator, writer, and cartoonist whose work spans graphic novels and picturebooks.
